ORMYLIA FOUNDATION ART DIAGNOSIS CENTER

The Art Diagnosis Centre carries out research activities, covering a broad spectrum of applications in the field of interdisciplinary study, documentation and protection of cultural heritage works.

The Centre was founded in 1996 by the sisterhood of the Holy Monastery, with funding from the European Economic Area (EEA) and the scientific support of Professor Ioannis Chryssoulakis.

The occasion and reason for the creation of the Centre was the sisterhood’s need to study and research with scientific methodology and adequacy the hagiographic tradition of the Orthodox Church, in order to decorate the Monastery Catholicon.

The Research activity, the development of innovative products (analytical non-destructive layouts and software tools), as well as the establishment of analytic diagnostic methodology in order to characterize materials and their application techniques, as an vital part of the integrated approach to artworks, aim at: the further development of diagnostic methods and the improvement of conservation methodologies and ways to save artworks, aiming at long-term protection of monuments. the digital archiving, management and interdisciplinary documentation of artworks. the reinforcement of modern artistic creation through documented knowledge and a multidimensional approach to the works of our Cultural Heritage.
